The Commodore Hotel Cape Town

The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront (known simply as the “Waterfront”) is a vast shopping and entertainment district built around South Africa’s oldest working harbour. This vast property houses everything from exclusive shops, cinemas, restaurants and bars and The Commodore is best value hotel within walking distance.

The hotel is large with 260 rooms and we do our best to secure the rooms on the upper floors which have the best views across the city and
Table Mountain. There is decent wifi (for uploading images if you were in Botswana first!) in the hotel as well as a spa for a bit of pampering. The Commodore does a great breakfast but most of the time we suggest dining in one of the many great restaurants in the Waterfront or along the Atlantic Seaboard.

Uber works very well in Cape Town and is a great way to get out and about when you are not touring. One major highlight in the Waterfront is the Zeitz Mocaa (Museum of Contemporary Art Africa) built in some huge old grain silos and housing some amazing pieces spread throughout its cavernous interior. The Victoria and Alfred basins get their name from Queen Victoria and Alfred, her second oldest son, who inaugurated the construction as a 16-year-old midshipman in the Royal Navy in 1860.

He returned 10 years later to officially open the harbour.
