Whether you are arriving straight into The Chobe (via Kasane Airport BBK) or perhaps coming by road from Victoria Falls, we will be awaiting you with beaming smiles at the Pangolin Chobe Hotel to start your stay with us.

The Pangolin Chobe Hotel is perched on a plateau overlooking the Chobe River and positioned in a wildlife corridor, which makes use of the waterhole in front of the hotel. After checking in and being shown your room, there will be enough time to have a quick bite to eat, where you will be introduced to your Pangolin Photo Host, who will be guiding you for the coming days.

The Pangolin Chobe Hotel has 14 rooms, and the beds are configured as doubles or twins, depending on your requirements. They are en suite with air conditioning and great views from every room. We even have decent wifi these days, thanks to Starlink!

If you dont have a camera (or the person you are travelling with doesn’t) we will issue you with one of our Canon cameras and lenses, which is yours to use for the duration of your stay. We will also supply you with a large memory card to take all your pictures home with you. Anyone new to wildlife photography is recommended to take our FREE online introductory course before they arrive so they can hit the ground running!

During your stay, you will go into the Chobe National Park twice a day (early morning and afternoon). We tend to do more on the river in the custom-built photo boats because the river is so productive, but we also do game drives on land in our custom-designed Land Cruisers with four guests per vehicle.

While out in the park, your Pangolin Photo Host will be on hand to help you with your composition nd settings, as well as helping to identify potential subject matter by working hand in hand with the driver/guide to interpret the animal behaviours we are witnessing.

Each activity lasts for around four hours, and during the day, there will be image review sessions in the editing room with your host. You will need your laptop to take part in these. If you would like advice on editing, we suggest you have editing software downloaded already and have completed our free Adobe Lightroom course on The Pangolin Photo Academy.

The chefs and bar staff will be keeping you well fed and “watered” throughout your stay, and all meals and drinks are included. Everything is included in this package apart from any purchases you might make from our small gift shop.

In addition to that, every night you stay at the hotel contributes directly to funding our non-profit Pangolin.Africa, which is dedicated to protecting and preserving the four African pangolin species. You can learn more about our work here.

This four-day package fits seamlessly into any photo safari itinerary in the region. As a full sevice tour operator we would be delighted to assist you in building out that itinerary recomending trusted partners and properties throught the region to ensure that the high levels of service and photographic opportunities continue throughout your safari. Have a look at teh next tab along for some “add ons”.

Suggested Add-ons
If you are interested in any of the below add-ons, chat to your travel planner or mention it in the enquiry form below.

Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls is less than two hours by road from the Pangolin Chobe Hotel and is a great starting point. It has excellent air connectivity via Johannesburg (most common), but also through Nairobi and Addis Ababa on Kenya Airways and Ethiopian Airlines, respectively.

We have several partner properties in Vic Falls at different price points, and we can arrange your whole package there, including transfers, accommodation, as well as all the activities that we can book for you in advance. This includes tours of the falls and the local curio markets as well as a helicopter flight over The Falls themselves.

When it’s time to arrange a transfer to the Chobe, we can do so in a private vehicle (door-to-door) with a driver who will expedite your passage through the border.

The Okavango Delta

There are plenty of options in the Okavango Delta, but choosing the right lodge at the right time of year at the right price point can be rather challenging. As you can imagine, over the years, we have developed relationships with nearly all of the major operators. We would be happy to suggest destinations in The Delta that suit you and your photographic and game viewing ambitions.

We work with companies like Ker and Downey, Desert and Delta, Wilderness, Belmond, Natural Selection, African Bush Camps, Under One Botswana Sky, Kwando, Machaba and a host of others, and we can often negotiate preferential rates on your behalf. We can also organise private vehicles and make sure that the camps are fully briefed on what you want to see and photograph before you arrive.

We also get great rates from the charter airlines and have negotiated discounts on extra baggage for those hefty camera bags. For aerial photo opportunities, we can arrange early morning doors-off helicopter flights at most camps!

The Kalahari

The dryness of the Kalahari lends itself to hide photography, which is what we always recommend staying at Dinaka, which our friends run at Ker and Downey Botswana. We include the Kalahari in our flagship hosted safari (the Chobe, Delta and Kalahari Photo safari).

The Kalahari also offers up lots of species that you wouldn’t have seen on the rest of the safari, which will undoubtedly add more diversity to your portfolio of images.

South Africa

Getting to other destinations in South Africa is very simple from either The Chobe or after time in The Okavango Delta and Kalahari via Maun Airport (MUB). As with Botswana, we have developed great relationships in the Kruger/Sabi Sands area, Timbavati, Madikwe and of course Cape Town (where the reservations team is based!)

The majority of clients travel through Johannesburg anyway, so adding further destinations in SA is very simple, and we would be happy to go through your options on a call.

Zambia

The national parks in Zambia are becoming very popular these days with photographers, and we have partners in South Luangwa, Lower Zambezi, Kafue and even Liuwa plains.

Zimbabwe

Along with Victoria Falls, we like to combine The Chobe with time in both Hwange National Park and the iconic Mana Pools. Happy to recommend the best places to stay in eithe,r as well as arrange the transfers by air.

Kenya

As mentioned before, there is a direct flight between Nairobi and Victoria Falls several times a week (only 3 3-hour flight time), so it’s effortless to combine East Africa with Southern Africa. As you will have seen from the website, we do plenty of safaris in Kenya with add-ons to see the gorillas in Uganda, so if you are in the market for an extended “once in a lifetime” combination of these destinations, then we would be only too happy to pull this together for you into one seamless itinerary.

In Summary

Pangolin has been operating since 2011, growing our network of preferred suppliers and partners. Over that time, we have designed bespoke itineraries for thousands of clients and we know what works and what doesn’t.

Our commitment to you is that we will find the perfect destinations for you to visit, and we will never just book you an itinerary because there is space. We have a very high percentage of repeat clients, and our reputation means everything to us. Many safrai itineraries on the market are designed to maximise profitability (often with one supplier who offers incentives for longer stays at their properties). Some of the places might not be the best fit for you and what you want to see and photograph.

When we design a safari itinerary with you, we promise to be transparent and realistic about what you can hope to see and photograph. Nothing is ever guaranteed but we can at least increase your odds of success by sending you to the right place at the right time of year with the right partners within your budget.

Suitability over profitability is our mantra!
