Tamia was born in Gaborone and later spent part of her childhood in Francistown, before her family moved back to Gaborone. Although she grew up in urban environments, she was always surrounded by a love for the outdoors — every school holiday was spent on her family’s farm, where she developed a deep appreciation for nature, wildlife and adventure from a young age.

Always creative, Tamia loved storytelling from an early age, writing poetry and plays at school — a passion that eventually led her to study Broadcasting and Journalism. It was while studying that she discovered her strongest passion lay in creative storytelling: writing, visuals and film, and finding ways to connect with people emotionally through those stories.

Through the Botswana Ignite programme, Tamia spent a month in Kasane developing her filmmaking skills and producing a wildlife documentary — an experience that brought together her love for storytelling, conservation and the natural world. During her time there, she developed a deeper connection with the area, spending Sunday evenings watching the sunset and simply being in nature. Those quiet moments reminded her how much peace and belonging she found in the wild, and when she returned to Gaborone, she promised herself she would one day come back to Kasane.

That journey eventually led Tamia to Pangolin Photo Safaris, where she now works as a Photo Host, combining her passion for photography, storytelling, conservation and connecting with people. Living and working in Kasane has given her an even greater appreciation for Botswana’s wildlife, landscapes and cultures.
