Remembering Giraffes: Looking Back on a Successful Partnership

At Pangolin Photo Safaris, we have a long-standing tradition of supporting initiatives that combine world-class photography with urgent conservation action. Following our support for Remembering Wildlife for the last 5 years, we were thrilled to join Margot Raggett’s groundbreaking series once again for its latest installment: Remembering Giraffes.
Spotlighting the “Forgotten Giants”
Often called the “forgotten giants” of Africa, giraffes have undergone what conservationists call a “silent extinction,” with populations plummeting by nearly 30% over the last few decades. The goal of Remembering Giraffes was to turn the global spotlight on these graceful mammals, raising both awareness and the vital funds needed to protect their future.
Our Contribution: Doubling Down for Conservation
We were honored to contribute to the record-breaking success of the Remembering Giraffes campaign. Building on our previous involvement, we donated two solo safari stays to the cause—one featured as a premier reward on the Kickstarter platform and the other for the project's prestigious silent auction.
Each donation offered a single place on the Pangolin Chobe Hotel’s 7-day/6-night safari. These all-inclusive packages were designed to give the winning supporters a world-class experience, including:
- Full board accommodation (with no single supplement).
- Twice-daily photo activities on our custom boats and vehicles.
- Full use of cameras, lenses, and expert tuition from our resident photo hosts.
We are incredibly happy to report that these spots were snapped up by passionate wildlife lovers. Because 100% of the profits from these donations and book sales go directly to the frontline, our partnership helped provide a significant boost to giraffe conservation projects across the continent.
The Power of the Collective Image
The Remembering Wildlife series is renowned for featuring images donated by the world's most talented wildlife photographers. It was an immense honour for our team to be included in this collective effort, using the power of the lens to bridge the gap between viewers at home and the wildlife that desperately needs our protection.
Whether it was a journey of giraffes silhouetted against a Botswana sunset or an intimate close-up of their intricate patterns, these images serve as a permanent record of why we fight for these animals.
The Impact of Your Support
The campaign may have ended, but the work is just beginning. The funds raised are now being deployed to support anti-poaching efforts, translocation projects, and community education programs designed to reduce human-wildlife conflict.
We want to extend a huge thank you to the Pangolin community and the successful bidders who will be joining us in Chobe during the 2026-28 seasons. Together, we are helping to ensure that future generations can see these magnificent creatures thriving in the wild, rather than only "remembering" them through photographs.
